Venture capital by the numbers, including major cities and industries

Venture capital hit a 15 year high in 2015. $58.8 billion poured into ventures. Private companies like Uber and Snapchat ($1 billion+ valuations) took in 39% of all venture capital. Fewer venture capital deals are being done with higher valuations.

The startup industries that took in the most venture capital were software, biotechnology, media & entertainment, medical devices & equipment. Together, startups in these industries took in 76% of all venture capital.

Cities that took in the most venture capital were San Francisco, New York and Boston. Meanwhile, Charlottesville, Rochester and Oklahoma City are quickly growing their startup and venture capital scenes.

Drone technology is a hot new startup field, taking in a lot more technology venture capital.
